It all started 30 years ago
Our founder Eddie used to run a successful pet shop in Pinner, Middlesex, which became the first town in the UK to have a supermarket with a pet-food aisle. Overnight, he lost his regular customers and quickly realised that for independent stores to remain viable, they had to offer unique products that couldn’t be bought in supermarkets. This is when our commitment to providing independent stores with the very best pet food began.

Eddie’s next venture
After Eddie became the UK distributor for an American brand of ultra-premium pet food, we became one of the largest and most trusted suppliers in the UK, supplying over 1,000 independent stores. In 2008, the parent company was purchased by a global multi-national and it called time on this chapter of our history. After 17 years, the journey was over.
Canagan is born
With a desire to satisfy the ancestral diet of our dogs, and the culmination of over 30 years of expertise in animal nutrition, Canagan was born. It was an instant hit! Customers loved that it was Britain’s first grain-free pet food and we paired pristine cuts of meat and fish with succulent vegetables and botanicals.

Queen’s Award for Enterprise
Canagan is now available in 45 countries, with over 10,000 retail partners. In recognition of our global success, we received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade.
